Trip Planning

Most motorcycle trips don’t fall apart on the road. They fall apart in the weeks before, when something important got skipped or left too late. The wrong insurance. A packing list built from someone else’s trip. A daily mileage target that looked reasonable on a map and felt brutal after day two.

This section covers the planning side of touring — not as a checklist exercise but as a set of real decisions made on real trips. Route building, daily mileage, documentation, budgeting, what to pack, what not to pack, and what nobody thinks to sort until something goes wrong at the worst possible moment. Every post here comes from planning I’ve done myself, for trips I actually rode.

If you’re starting from scratch, begin with the trip planning pillar post.
If you’re looking for something specific, the posts below cover every stage of the process.
